Either it is for a hobby or you want to create a career out of it you can easily set up and run your own WordPress website/blog with this checklist.

You are just few steps away from your own website/blog.

Just go with the checklist and create your own website.

Well as you are excited about setting up your own website let’s just move forward to the steps and  create your website:

1. Buy a Domain:

Domain or domain name is the name of a website/blog that is used by people to find your website/blog.

For instance my domain name is nikitatomar.com. So to find my website you will have to type this on the search engine.

So, domain is the first thing you need to build your internet or web presence.

Domain names come with different extensions like .com, .net, .in, .org and many more.

Choose the extension according to your need and purpose.

There are various websites that provide domain name services.

Here is the list of some domain name providers:

  • Name.com
  • Namecheap.com
  • Godaddy.com
  • namesilo.com

2. Buy A Hosting Plan:

Hosting is a place where all the files of your website are stored. It is a place where all the content of your website is stored.

So,once you have a domain name you need to have a place where you can put that name, and that place is called hosting.

Here is the list of some hosting providers:

  • Hostinger.com
  • Bluehost.com
  • namecheap.com
  • WPX hosting
  • A2 hosting
  • hostgator.com

Now, you can either buy both domain name and hosting from the different service providers or from the same.

Choose according to your purpose, but hosting service has a lot to do with your websites performance so, take care while choosing the hosting plan

3. Update the name server in your domain:

(Only if you have purchased domain and hosting from the different service provider, otherwise just go to the fourth step)

You have purchased domain and hosting from the different service providers.

So now you need to connect them(your domain and hosting) so that whenever someone searches for your domain name it will fetch the files from the hosting server where you have put the domain.

As, domain is just a name files are stored on the hosting server.

Once you have purchased hosting , your hosting provider will give you name servers which you will have to update in your domain.

It can take up to 24 to 48 hrs to connect your domain and hosting.

So, before you go to further steps make sure your domain and hosting are connected.

4. Install WordPress:

Now that you have a domain name and hosting platform and you have successfully connected both of them.

You would need a CMS(content management system)

Though there are various CMS, here we are specifically talking about WordPress.

WordPress has now become the most popular CMS as it is easy to install and use with and so anyone can easily build their website using WordPress.

So you can now install WordPress software from your hosting’s control panel.

Your hosting provider will provide you a control panel(cpanel and in case of hostinger it is called h panel) where you will have a lot of options to control the functionality of the website.

But for now just go on the WordPress manager option and install the free WordPress software.

And WOW! YOU have done it!

Now that you are done with setting up your website let’s see a few things which you can do right after installing WordPress:

5. Install and activate themes:

Theme is used to change the layout and design of the blog/website.

In simpler terms the theme is used to change the look and feel of the website.

There are plenty of themes available free as well as paid.

You can choose the themes based on the purpose of the website/blog.

6. Install and activate plugins:

Plugins are the software that adds more functionality to your WordPress blog/ website.

You can install, activate, deactivate and uninstall whenever you want.

There end numbers of plugins free and paid that can be used based on your need and purpose and function you want to add.

7. Add pages and posts:

Now that you are all set with the basic things you should be focusing on what you want your audience to see when they visit your site.

So it’s time to set up your pages and posts.

Totally up to you how and what you want your website to look.

Accordingly you can add pages you want to show.

8. Connect with reporting tools:

Tools like Google Search Console( provides report of how search engine crawlers are interacting with your website,

basically you can improve your SEO efforts),

Google Analytics (it provides data of how the users or the audience is interacting with your website,

you can use the data to improve your rankings both organically and through paid ads )and

Google Data Studio( it provides the tools to organize and use data collected in a
meaningful way).

Data provided by these tools can be used to improve the website ,content, products or services on your websites.

They are free tools which provide relevant and reliable information, so do not forget to connect and configure them with your website.
